Sian Hopkins

Standing for:

Newport East

My key issues are:

  • Mental health provisions and support.

  • Life skills and financial education.

  • Opportunities for disabled young people.

Candidate profile:

I would like to be a part of Youth Parliament as I am passionate about issues in Wales that affect myself and others around me and would like to make a difference for young people. I feel the youth parliament is important so that a link is established between young people and those in power to make the changes.

Within my school I am a senior prefect, which allows me to interact with students of all ages and get to know more about what matters to them. I feel that my approachable personality and ability to speak to people from all walks of life will support me if I was to become a Youth Parliament member. I am fully capable and motivated to ensure that all voices will be heard from all corners of society.

Last year I won the Contribution to the Community Award in Llanwern High School for my commitment to the community, which included working with an organisation that supports young people with special needs. This continuing work allows me to meet unique individuals, as well as those who are special in their lives and gives me the opportunity to hear from people from different backgrounds.
