Bethan Johnes

Standing for:

Cardiff Central

My key issues are:

  • Equality

  • Modern foreign languages

  • Cycling infrastructure

Candidate profile:

Youth Parliament would be a chance for me to get the young people of Cardiff Central heard. Older people often think we are too young to know anything. I want to make them listen to what we have to say.

I'm not afraid to let people know what I think (within reason, of course) and frequently share my thoughts on social media. But it’s also important to listen. I would run polls to consult the youth of Cardiff and see what matters to them. I am standing on three issues that matter to me. Modern foreign languages are extremely useful and their decline in schools is concerning. Equality, whether it is do with gender, race, religion or sexuality, is something we all want but are far from.

Cycling in Cardiff is often horrendous and although the new bike hires are a start, there's still a lot to do. Cycling is great exercise, and many would love to do it, but the lack of paths and rudeness of passers-by can be very off putting for many young people.

I would love the chance to stand up for these issues and anything else people want me to (as long as it’s reasonable!)
