Ruby James

Standing for:

Swansea West

My key issues are:

  • Mental Health

  • Votes at sixteen

  • Environment

Candidate profile:

I think it is fundamentally important that all young people’s voices are heard, so I would gather the views of as many as possible using social media and meeting with them face to face, wherever they are, for example, in local libraries and parks.

I strongly feel that the voting age should be lowered to 16 and would lobby Welsh Government to change the law.  If the voting age had been 16 during the EU referendum then the result would probably have been different. It is crucial that it is lowered for future voting especially on issues of this magnitude where the effect will ultimately be on our lives as we grow up.

Young people’s mental health is another key issue.  I have a close connection with Swansea Mind, helping me to speak to service users and gather information.

My third key issue is the environment, especially reducing plastic and waste.  I enjoy participating in debates and have completed the Premier League Enterprise Core Programme, with Swansea City FC.  I am approachable, determined and care about what people say: Let’s change the face of politics together!
