Sally Hopkins

Standing for:

My key issues are:

  • Education

  • Mental Health Awareness

  • Public Transport in rural areas

Candidate profile:

I would like to make a positive difference to school children in Wales.  As an average student I don’t particularly like school, however, I understand the importance of education and would like to see a more rounded curriculum with less pressure to achieve the top grades.  My own mental health has been affected by the pressure I have felt in school so I would like to see better awareness of the symptoms, and improved access to mental health services for school children.  I feel that as I have experience in both positive and negative areas of school life I can relate to children who have struggled in the same way.

I would also like to see better public transport for young people as I have reached the age where I am becoming more independent, but the cost of using the bus is prohibitively expensive.  The over 60’s receive a free bus pass, but I would suggest they be charged a nominal fee to subsidise the youth as they travel to socialise, attend sports events, etc. I would visit local schools to present the Welsh Youth Parliament during their assemblies at least once a year and collect ideas and feedback at later visits.
