Olivia Chidlow

Standing for:

Newport West

My key issues are:

  • Reforming the Education System

  • Mental Health and Support

  • Equality (Gender, LGBTQ+ and Race)

Candidate profile:

I would like to be a member of the Youth Parliament because I want to make a real change to how we live as young people in Wales.

Through the experience I have gained from sitting on school council, sports council and as a wellbeing ambassador, I want to make young people more of a priority. The way the school system has been designed: learning purely for exams means we miss out on vital life lessons.

Despite the academic knowledge we have been given, we have not been taught how to accept our peers for their choices or to manage independently after finishing school.  The lack of support for our mental health, some that are caused because of school, is also something that needs to be addressed.

I will consult with young people in my area through my position on school council, organising regular meetings within my constituency and an accessible email or social media platform from which I can be reached to ensure that I can be a true representative of my peers and their beliefs.

I believe that you should vote for me because I am considerate and caring, yet determined to make a difference for you all.
