Mariel Arevalo

Standing for:

My key issues are:

  • Mental health service in schools

  • Improving race relations

  • Treating anti-social behaviour

Candidate profile:

When I was younger, I had a speech impediment; This resulted in me being unable to form a sentence until age 5. Misinterpretation and receiving prejudice (due to my race) were considered routine. However, I am grateful my family supported through therapy. Not everyone has the benefits I had. By becoming a member, I can sympathise those misunderstood daily, by being a voice to the voiceless.

Pursuing volleyball reinforced communication and team building skills. I also spent a week volunteering in a local day-care. I enjoyed conditioning fundamental morals as it’s vital in early stages of development. Occasionally, I attend the congregation ‘One In Christ’ teaching children Bible stories.

I will wholeheartedly shine light on affairs regarding Wales’ youth. I would explore domestic risk factors for adolescent mental health. Anti-social behavioural issues will be investigated. In 2013 Wales and England had, 1,349 ASBOs issued, a 2% increase from 1,329 ASBOs in 2012. I want to build bridges between cultures by improving race relations.

I am more than happy to listen to all different kinds of people. I wish to learn, adapt and debate issues of importance to Wales and its people. I know our opinions matter; we matter.
