My key issues are:
Raising awareness of LGBT issues
Raising awareness for people with learning difficulties
Supporting people better who have mental health disorders
My name is Harvey John and I would be delighted to take an active role in Young Parliament. I have a great interest in politics and I strongly believe that it is important for young people to not only voice their opinions, but have their voices heard. I would consider myself an individual who strives for better representation for my peers, and the youths of the local community. I have displayed this passion in school, most notably in Year 9 when I helped set up the Student Rights Committee within my school, with the help of my peers and child’s commissioner for Wales, Sally Holland.
I believe that I am ambitious, independent and hard working, and I feel one of my strongest attributes is seeing a cause through to the end, with dedicated passion and commitment. I have also acquired beneficial skills from my time at DofE, which include volunteering and coaching. As part of School Council I have presented to the Governing Body and to Sally Holland. I believe these collected skills will help me greatly when interacting with a wide range of people.
In my extra curricular time I am a competitive rower, and this has helped maintain my discipline and dedication. Rowing has enabled me to work as part of a team, and I have developed a level of camaraderie which benefits me every day. I encounter people from all walks of life, and as a result issues of race and gender are areas that mean a lot to me. My biggest aim is to truly make a difference on this path towards Young Parliament.
