Emotional and mental health support

Time to talk

If you’re having mental health problems, you are not alone. 1 in 4 of us will have problems with our mental health at some point in our lives.

That is why we need your help to understand and look closely at emotional and mental health support for young people in Wales.

Mental Health

Let's talk about mental health

Leading up to ‘World Mental Health Day’, the Welsh Youth Parliament’s Emotional and Mental Health Committee have launched their ‘Let’s Talk About Mental Health’ report and video. An easy read version of the report can be found here.

This report aims to reflect a real life picture of the current state of emotional and mental health support for children and young people in Wales – good, bad and indifferent.

The video shows young people, parents/carers and professionals the real life situations which are currently happening here in Wales.

In order to put the report and video together, and to get a full picture, the committee reached out to children and young people, parents/carers, education and healthcare professionals to get their views on the current information and support provision in Wales through an online survey.

WE NEED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND FAST AS IT’S OUR LIVES AFFECTED

Over 1,600 people responded to the survey, with one of the surveys being aimed at children and young people, 11-25 years old.

The surveys were launched at events in Ysgol David Hughes, Anglesey and Gower College, Swansea where young people came together to have their say.

But they didn’t stop there and during the Welsh Youth Parliament week in July, the committee met with young people from across Wales who came together to discuss emotional and mental health support through our online sessions.

The Emotional and Mental Health Committee are passionate about ensuring that there is better support available for children and young people in Wales and believe that there is a need for change.
